The use of Trakt with third party streaming apps is a game changer, however, users should change this setting or risk being exposed!
Trakt is a well known streaming service that transforms the functionality and personalisation of streaming apps by syncing your watch lists, and collections to make a library of content that is tailored to your preference!
The service allows users to keep track of the videos they watch throughout the week, either manually or automatically via media players such as VLC, Kodi and Popcorn Time.
Trakt processes and stores downloading habits so its users can keep track of what they’re watching. By default it also allows others to see this information as well, and that’s where things start to become problematic.
Your Trakt activity may be exposed!
If we go back to 2014, there was a case where rights holders and agencies were monitoring streaming activity, especially pirated content, because Trakt will display who is watching specific content, and this was the case with hits like Interstellar and Lucy at that time.
As much as the integration of Trakt into popular streaming apps like Catmouse or TVZion, there is a setting you should change to prevent the risk of your activity being exposed from inside Trakt itself.
Warning: Your IP is EXPOSED – Use a VPN when streaming to hide it!
YOUR IP ADDRESS IS EXPOSED

USE A VPN AND HIDE YOUR ACTIVITY!
What setting should I change to hide my activity on Trakt?
In addition to always using a VPN when streaming, I strongly advise you to make your profile private to prevent spying eyes watching your streaming activity.
Here are the steps to make your Trakt profile private;
1 – Navigate to Trakt.tv and log in to your account
2 – Click your Profile icon in the top right corner of the page, and choose ‘Settings‘
3 – Directly under your profile image, tick the box to ‘Make Profile Private’
4 – Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click save.
That’s it! Your profile will now remain private which means third parties will be unable to view your activity.
Ofcourse, when using services such as Trakt, there is always a risk, you should always take steps to hide your activity when it comes to streaming copyrighted content.
